Achievement Goals (Competencies) for the Differerent Levels of Instruction

Participants must complete all the achievement goals to progress to the next level on the pathway.

Level One:

  • Enters and Exits the pool safely
  • Splashes Face
  • Confident in the pool
  • Can put head under water
  • Blow bubbles
  • Makes a starfish on their back
  • Makes a starfish on their front
  • Introduction to kicking at bar

Level Two:

  • From sitting 1/4 turn pool entry
  • Floats on back and regains feet
  • Floats on front and regains feet
  • Floats unaided
  • Introduction to arm action
  • Kicks away from the bar and returns
  • Makes a starfish unaided

Level Three:

  • Glides, kicks and blows bubbles
  • Intro arm action on front
  • Intro arm action on back
  • Intro to streamline kick on front
  • Intro to streamline kick on back

Level Four:

  • Maintain correct body position on the front
  • Maintain correct body position on the back
  • Freestype breathing with board
  • Swim 15m freestyle
  • Swm 15m Backstroke
  • Streamline position with correct kick, unaided on front
  • Streamline position with correct kick, unaided on back

Level Five:

  • Streamline glide with correct kick, unaided on front
  • Streamline glide with correct kick, unaided on back
  • Correct breathing action
  • Correct freestyle arm stroke
  • Correct leg action front
  • Correct leg action back
  • 25m freestyle
  • 25m backstroke

Level Six:

  • Correct breathing action
  • Correct freestyle arm action
  • 25m freestyle – holds technique
  • 25m backstroke – holds technique
  • 50m freestyle
  • 50m backstroke
  • Introduction to breaststroke
  • Introduction to butterfly
